What is Permaculture?

Permaculture is more than just  a gardening strategy.

Permaculture is:

the intersection of many movements seeking to create a more just sustainable world. Permaculture encompasses social justice, food security, nature connection, natural and green building, community living, spirituality, organic gardening, nature awareness, waste management  and alternative economies. We seek to meet the needs of the present generation without compromising the resources of future generations. We are guided by the three principles of earth care, people care and resource share.

And  is also a system of holistic and sustainable landscape design:

A Vision: “Consciously designed landscapes which mimic patterns and relationships found in nature while yielding an abundance of food  fiber and energy for provision of local needs”   David Holmgren

A Design System “a holistic set of teachings that allow us to plan and create productive cost effective  and regenerative systems for our own families and communities”  Ethan Roland

A Network: a movement of farmers gardeners educators, students, home owners, renters. There are over 1 million practitioners with over 5,000 projects in more than 140 countries.

As designers we  gather information through observation and working with what nature is providing. From this information we create designs that meet our needs for food, water, socialization, shelter, education, energy, fun and community.IMG_1932
